Hooray! The school holiday has already started recently. Unfotunately, especially for 'O' Level students, have to go back to school for extra lessons to prepare for coming 'O' Level examination and have to stay back after extra lessons to complete their coursework. That's mean we will not have any leisure time. It's really hectic and stressful for me and others too. DAMN TIRING! WHAT THE HELL?! Am I right? Sigh..
Nowadays, so many things have happened around us especially relationship. Sigh.. Nevermind.. I will not mention their names. I have to respect their privacy so I don't have to drag this matter to this blog. Anyway...
TO SEC 5N1 AND OTHER WEAKER MATHS STUDENTS,
Erm.. Before you put a lot of effort in certain subject especially mathematics, you need to read carefully before you make decision. Here you go!
Why should I study and do well in Elementary Mathematics?
(A) For students planning to study in a junior college
(1) Admission to a two-year pre-university course at junior colleges after graduating secondary school is determined by the L1R5 (first language + 5 relevant subjects) scoring system. You need to include at least one mathematics subject in L1R5 subjects.
(2) If you only study Elementary Mathematics, you need do well in this subject in “O” level examinations.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (B) For students planning to study in a polytechnic
(1) For students seeking admission to diploma courses in polytechnics, the L1R4 (first language + 4 relevant subjects) scoring system is used.
(2) However, students will also be required to meet specific pre-requisites outlined by the different polytechnic schools they are applying for.
(3) Most polytechnic courses require an applicant to include at least one mathematics subject in L1R4 subjects.
(4) Some courses require an applicant to have sat for a mathematics subject (Grade 1-9) in “O” level exam even though a mathematics subject is not required in the L1R4 score.
(5) So, if you only study Elementary Mathematics, it is better for you to do well in this subject in “O” level examinations.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(C) For students who are not sure of what to do or study after O-level
If you have read carefully from (A) to (B), you will agree that a good pass in of O-level Elementary Mathematics will be very useful or helpful to you when needed, even you plan to work or start your own business after O-level.

Why should I study and do well in Additional Mathematics?
(A) For students planning to study in a junior college
(1) Admission to a two-year pre-university course at junior colleges after graduating secondary school is determined by the L1R5 (first language + 5 relevant subjects) scoring system. You need to include at least one mathematics subject in L1R5 subjects.
(2) You may include both Additional Mathematics and Elementary Mathematics in L1R5 subjects.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(B) For students planning to study H2 Mathematics in a junior college
(1) H2 Mathematics requires knowledge of O-level Additional Mathematics or equivalent. A pass in O-level Additional Mathematics or equivalent is needed.
(2) H2 Mathematics prepares students adequately for university courses including mathematics, physics and engineering, where more mathematics content is required.
(3) If you are not sure of what to study in the university, you should study and do well in O-level Additional Mathematics and A-level H2 Mathematics.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(C) For students planning to study H1 Mathematics in a junior college
(1) Students with no Additional Mathematics background are normally only allowed to take H1 Mathematics in a junior college. H1 Mathematics provides a foundation in Mathematics for students who intend enroll in university courses such as business, accountancy, economics and social sciences.
(2) A pass in H1 Mathematics or a pass in O-level Additional Mathematics is prerequisite for admission to university courses such as business, accountancy, economics and social sciences.
(3) So, with a good a pass in O-level Additional Mathematics, do you still need to study H1
Mathematics if you are sure of what to study in the university and do not intend to study H2 Mathematics?

(D) General information for students planning to study in a junior college
Admission to a two-year pre-university course at junior colleges after graduating secondary school is determined by the L1R5 (first language + 5 relevant subjects) scoring system. You may include both Additional Mathematics and Elementary Mathematics in L1R5 subjects.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(E) For students planning to study in a polytechnic
(1) For students seeking admission to diploma courses in polytechnics, the L1R4 (first language + 4 relevant subjects) scoring system is used. You may include both Additional Mathematics and Elementary Mathematics in L1R4 subjects.
(2) However, students will also be required to meet specific pre-requisites outlined by the different polytechnic schools they are applying for.
(3) Most polytechnic courses require an applicant to include at least one mathematics subject in L1R4 subjects, i.e. Additional Mathematics or Elementary Mathematics.
(4) Some courses require an applicant to have sat for a mathematics subject (Grade 1-9) in “O” level exam even though a mathematics subject is not required in the L1R4 score.
(5) Knowledge of O-level Additional Mathematics will be very useful if your polytechnic course requires you to study Mathematics.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(F) For students who are not sure of what to study after O-level
If you have read carefully from (A) to (E), you will agree that a good pass in of O-level Additional Mathematics will be very useful or helpful to you when needed.
In conclusion, you have already read the reasons above why you need to do well in elementary/additional mathematics. I totally agreed with these statement above. So you have to think twice before you make decision and even before 'O' Level examination. I hope it is relevant and useful to you.
THE CHOICE IS YOURS. =)
